Before Your Consultation

Bring these with you so the surgeon can review your case fully.

  • Previous prescriptions and a list of current medicines
  • Blood test, ultrasound, CT or MRI reports
  • Scan images or CDs, if available
  • Discharge summaries from earlier treatment
  • A list of your symptoms and questions

Preparing for Surgery

Your team will give specific instructions. In general:

  • Complete the advised blood tests and pre-anaesthetic check
  • Tell the team about blood thinners and diabetes medicines
  • Follow fasting instructions exactly
  • Arrange for someone to accompany you home

Day of Surgery

What you may expect when you arrive at the hospital.

  • Admission and consent paperwork
  • A final check by the surgical and anaesthesia team
  • Change into a hospital gown; remove jewellery
  • Recovery room monitoring after the operation

After Surgery

Basic recovery guidance for the first weeks at home.

  • Keep wounds clean and dry as advised
  • Take pain relief as prescribed
  • Walk gently each day; avoid heavy lifting
  • Attend your follow-up visit
  • Call if you notice fever, redness or increasing pain
